Azerbaijani Sumo competes at Hakuho Cup

Azerbaijani sumo wrestler Huseyn Aghayev performed at the “Hakuho Cup” tournament held in Tokyo on February 7-8.

Axar.az reports, citing that this competition was of historical importance for Azerbaijani sumo. Thus, for the first time, our athlete tested his strength in the aforementioned prestigious tournament.

A total of 361 sumo wrestlers took to the tatami in the weight category in which Huseyn competed for medals. The Azerbaijani representative won brilliant victories in the first three matches. Two of the opponents were Japanese, and one was Brazilian.

He said goodbye to the tournament by losing to his Japanese opponent in the fourth match.

However, participation in the prestigious competition and the demonstrated determination of Huseyn Aghayev are considered an important success for Azerbaijani sumo.
