Azerbaijan’s Nations League opponents to be decided today

Azerbaijan’s opponents in the UEFA Nations League will be determined today.

Axar.az reports that the draw ceremony will be held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, and is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. Baku time.

The national team, coached by Aykhan Abbasov, will enter the draw from Pot 1 of League D. In this league, two groups of three teams will be formed, with each team playing four matches on a home-and-away basis.

The two national teams that will compete in League D will be finalized after the playoff matches to be held in March.

League D
Pot 1: Azerbaijan, Lithuania, loser of Latvia/Gibraltar, loser of Luxembourg/Malta
Pot 2: Liechtenstein, Andorra

If the losing side in the playoffs ranks between 49th and 52nd in the rankings, it will remain in Pot 1; if it finishes 53rd or 54th, it will drop to Pot 2. These teams will be represented in the draw according to those positions.

The new season of the UEFA Nations League will begin on September 24. The final group matches will be played in November, while the tournament’s final stage is scheduled for June 2027.
