Armenian provocation took place at the "Batumi Open" international karate tournament held in Georgia.
Axar.az reports that Elmin Isayev, coach of the Azerbaijan Karate Do Federation.
According to him, the incident occurred during the final match between Alika Semihova, a member of the "Samurai Karate" club, and her Armenian opponent:
"Our athlete won 2:0 against the representative of Armenia in the main time. After that, he performed some rituals and wanted to leave the tatami. At that time, the Armenian athlete, who could not digest the defeat, approached Alika. We thought that he was coming to meet. But he behaved in a manner that was not suitable for a sport or an athlete. however, our athlete behaved with restraint and showed his culture. Everything happened in front of the eyes of Hitoshi Kasuya Sensei, the president of the World Shotokan Karate Federation from Japan."
Isayev said that at that time, the Armenian athlete should have been removed from the competition: "The silver medal should have been taken away from his hand and he should not have stood on the podium. Unfortunately, the Georgians did not do this. We punished them by winning the gold medal and raising our flag to the highest peak."
It should be noted that karate players from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Iran, Armenia, Scotland, USA and Uzbekistan competed in the tournament.
