Russia was removed from the membership of this organization

Russia was excluded from the membership of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for 2 years.

Axar.az reports that this decision was made on the basis of a complaint from the Ukrainian side.

In the complaint, the admission of chess clubs operating in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye, as well as Crimea regions, which are under the control of the country and known to the international community as Ukrainian territory, to the membership of the Russian Chess Federation.

It should be noted that the said decision will enter into force in August.
