Nigeria fined Meta 220 million dollars

The Nigerian government fined Meta company $220 million.

Axar.az reports that Adamu Abdullahi, an official of the Federal Competition and Consumer Rights Protection Commission, reported on this.

He said that "Meta" was intensively investigated for 3 years.

According to the results of the investigation, the company's Facebook and WhatsApp social platforms repeatedly violated the country's data protection and consumer rights laws:

"The company offers users in other countries a choice about whether to allow their data to be shared. But this was not offered to Nigerians."

It should be noted that the Nigerian government announced that in 2022, "Meta" has 154 million active users.
