Georgia protests OSCE Chair’s participation in rally

Georgia has sent a protest note to the OSCE Secretariat regarding the participation of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, in the anti-government rally in Tbilisi.

Axar.az reports that this is stated in a statement by the Georgian Foreign Ministry.

It was reported that Elina Valtonen, going beyond the program of her official visit on October 14, joined a small number of protesters and made a statement that did not reflect reality, together with a group that illegally blocked the main avenue of Tbilisi.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry assessed this step as an attempt to mislead the international community about the situation in the country. The statement of the organization noted that this behavior is contrary to the spirit of cooperation within the OSCE and can be considered an abuse of the mandate of the Chairperson.

It should be noted that after the incident, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze canceled the planned meeting with Elina Valtonen.
