Imran Khan sentenced to 17 years over corruption case

A Pakistani court has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison in a second corruption case related to the Toshakhana (the official state repository for gifts).

Axar.az reports that the case concerns the alleged embezzlement of state gifts received from the Saudi Arabian government in 2021.

The court sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 10 years for “breach of trust” and 7 years under various provisions of the anti-corruption law. In addition, they were fined 16.4 million Pakistani rupees (approximately 60,000 USD).

The criminal case was opened in July 2024. The investigation claims that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi sold valuable gifts, such as expensive watches and jewelry, instead of submitting them to the Toshakhana.
