Deadly wave of attacks hits Mali military leadership

Mali’s Defence Minister Sadio Camara has been killed amid coordinated attacks on military sites across the country.

Axar.az reports, citing Al Jazeera, his residence in the garrison town of Kati came under attack during a wave of simultaneous assaults carried out by al-Qaeda-linked militants and Tuareg rebels.

Camara was a central figure in Mali’s military government following the coups of 2020–2021 and was regarded as one of the most influential figures in the country’s leadership.

The report notes that the attacks targeted multiple locations, including Bamako, Gao, Kidal, and Sevare, with heavy fighting continuing in some areas.
