King Charles III and Queen Camilla have arrived in Washington for a four-day state visit, with the trip unfolding against a backdrop of political tensions and heightened security concerns following a recent shooting in the U.S. capital.
Axar.az reports, citing The Guardian, the royal couple landed at Joint Base Andrews on Monday and are scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for official engagements, including a private reception at the White House.
The visit comes just days after a gunman opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, prompting a security review ahead of the king’s arrival. Buckingham Palace confirmed the trip would proceed after consultations with U.S. authorities, expressing gratitude to officials who ensured the visit could go ahead safely.
Despite the ceremonial focus, the visit is overshadowed by diplomatic strains linked to the ongoing Iran conflict, with disagreements between Washington and London over military policy. President Trump has recently criticized British leadership, while also maintaining a cordial tone toward the monarch.
During the visit, King Charles is expected to attend a state dinner, address the U.S. Congress, and travel to New York and Virginia for additional engagements, including visits tied to cultural and environmental initiatives.
The trip marks the king’s first state visit to the United States since ascending the throne in 2022.
