Zelensky and Trump discuss peace and ceasefire

I had a very meaningful, positive, and sincere conversation with US President Donald Trump.

Axar.az reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote this on his X account after a phone call with Donald Trump.

Speaking about his phone call with US leader Donald Trump on March 19, Zelensky expressed his confidence that “a lasting peace can be achieved this year.”

According to the president, the Ukrainian and American delegations are ready to meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to continue coordinating steps to achieve peace.

“I thanked Donald Trump for the good and productive start of the work of the Ukrainian and American teams in Jeddah on March 11 - this meeting of the teams significantly contributed to progress towards ending the war. We agreed that Ukraine should work together with the American leader to end the war. A lasting peace can be achieved this year,” Zelensky added.

According to Zelensky, Trump shared with him the details of his conversation with Putin and the main issues discussed.

"One of the first steps to a complete cessation of hostilities could be to stop attacks on energy and other civilian infrastructure. I supported this step, and I confirmed that Ukraine is ready to implement it. Our teams discussed this step in Jeddah. The American side also proposed an unconditional ceasefire on the front line. We believe that such steps are necessary to allow for the preparation of a comprehensive peace agreement during the ceasefire period," Zelensky stressed.

In addition, the President said that he had provided Trump with the latest information on the situation on the battlefield and the consequences of Russian strikes:

"We talked about the situation in the Kursk region and touched upon the issue of the release of prisoners of war and the return of Ukrainian children captured by Russian troops. We also discussed the state of Ukraine's air defense system and the possibilities of strengthening it to protect people's lives."
