-Hello. Please, introduce yourself.
Firstable thank you for your invitation. My name is Ulviyya Fataliyeva, I am 21 years old I am a professional chess player and I have been playing chess since I was 7 years old.
-What is your education?
I’ve graduated from the Azerbaijan University of Language from SABAH groups. And right now I’m going to take master degree in Italy and my branch will be English and American studies.
-Can you please talk about your career? I mean not so many people know many things about women chess players so please talk about chess for women in Azerbaijan.
I began playing chess when I was 7 years old and this is according to that my relatives played in the tournament and after this, it stimulated me to play chess. And as a child, I thought that chess is not an only logical game but also enjoyable game for me. After this, I have been for 6 times Azerbaijan champion, 2 times European champion, Wise World champion and also I am the gold medalist in European club cup that was held in Turkey.
Chess in Azerbaijan wasn’t so famous before 2008 but after our president’s announcement that we should begin to improve chess in our country in 2008 there was held in here Chess world cup, Baku 2016 Chess Olympics and etc. helped to improve chess in our country and chess became more famous in Azerbaijan.
-What are your proposes to young girls that want to be successful chess player in Azerbaijan?
I think not only in chess but also in all professions if you want to be the successful person you should work and believe in yourself. Work and believe that God will give everything according to your hardwork. Hardworking is the main thing in order to be successful.
-“Chess is the war of the brains” would you agree with this statement?
Yes, totally agree.
-Who was your strongest opponent in your career?
I can select one person that still is the best according to the chess rankings of the world. Her name is Harika Dronavalli. She got the highest point in ratings.
-Who is the best chess player in history for you?
Of course, Bobby Fischer.
-And who is the best chess player right now in World and in Azerbaijan?
In Azerbaijan right now there are several strongest chess players, for instance, Shahriyar Mammadyarov and Teymur Rajabov. And in the world, Magnus Carlsen is the best for me.
-If there would be the chess game between best men chess player and best women chess player who would win?
Unfortunately, man would win (she’s laughing). Because men can control their emotions but women are so emotional creature and in some situations, we can’t control our emotions. Therefore, men would win.
-My last question is that, do you think that the future of chess is bright in Azerbaijan?
Right now the improvement in chess is satisfactory in Azerbaijan. Because as I mentioned women chess in Azerbaijan wasn’t so improved in our country but after the announcement of our President Ilham Aliyev they started to pay more attention chess and I consider the future of chess will be brighter than now.
