Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has commented on reports that Azerbaijani cargo trucks were being held for extended periods at the Tbilisi and Batumi customs checkpoints.
Axar.az reports via APА, the Prime Minister told the local outlet "Business Media" that no such incident had taken place.
According to Kobakhidze, after inspections were carried out, only one truck was found to have been delayed — and that was due to a specific, justified reason.
“We are ready to have an open and honest conversation about any possible difficulties,” he added.
It should be noted that Azerbaijani TIR drivers had claimed they were being kept at Georgian customs points for more than 20 days without any valid explanation.
Commenting on the circulating reports, Georgia’s Revenue Service under the Ministry of Finance stated that, amid increased freight traffic in the country, all customs procedures for vehicles involved in international transportation are being carried out in an enhanced operational mode.
The agency added that, to ensure uninterrupted international freight flow, Georgia maintains close coordination with the relevant customs authorities of Turkiye, Azerbaijan, and Armenia under joint customs management mechanisms, allowing for prompt solutions to any issues that may arise.
