The President of the Council of the European Union, Charles Michel, refrained from describing the Armenian population's departure from Karabakh as an "ethnic cleansing attempt".
Axar.az reports that the EU leader, speaking about the normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, said that peace will require negotiations that can determine the obligations of both sides.
He said that the Azerbaijani side bears a great responsibility for protecting the rights and security of Armenian residents.
Charles Michel noted that a large part of the Armenian residents who left Karabakh are now in Armenia, and therefore the EU should provide humanitarian aid to this country.
It should be noted that earlier the US State Department also refused to use the word "ethnic cleansing".
