Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov participated in and addressed the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) during his business trip to Russia.

It was noted that the speech focused on Azerbaijan's perspectives on cooperation within the CIS in areas such as economy, trade, transportation and communications, artificial intelligence, humanitarian issues, youth, and more. It also provided information about Azerbaijan's presidency at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Gratitude was expressed to the Russian Federation for the successful organization of the Council of Ministers, and best wishes were conveyed to the Republic of Tajikistan, which will assume the presidency of the Union in the coming year.
It was emphasized that the enhancement of mutual visits and contacts among member states contributes significantly to cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral formats. Furthermore, it was noted that the Council of Foreign Ministers format is advantageous for discussing issues of mutual interest.
Confidence was expressed that plans to conduct joint events in the areas of humanitarian cooperation and youth will foster collaboration and closer ties among member countries and peoples.
It was emphasized that Azerbaijan places special importance on the "Cultural Capital of the Union" initiative, and it is planned that the decision to declare the city of Lachin as the CIS Cultural Capital for the next year will facilitate the organization of extensive joint projects and events in the field of culture this year.
The need for improving the international legal framework for effectively addressing issues of cooperation against radicalism within the CIS was noted, along with the significance of educational initiatives and strengthening human resource potential.
The importance of collaboration in the field of civilian-oriented artificial intelligence was highlighted, as well as the need to develop this area in accordance with international legal norms, particularly with respect to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, state supervision, and ethical standards.
The importance of joint efforts in combating security threats in this area was emphasized, and the measures undertaken by our country in this regard were discussed, including the first international conference on Cyber Diplomacy held in September of this year.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, providing detailed information about Azerbaijan's presidency at COP29, highlighted that the negotiation process led by Azerbaijan and the preparatory work being carried out are aimed at making a significant contribution to global climate action through extensive presidential activities.
