Recently, representatives from one of Russia's leading energy corporations, "Inter RAO," approached Azerbaijan and Georgia, proposing to supply electricity from these countries if necessary. The proposal involved imports of up to 600 MW. The first supplies have already been made from Azerbaijan, and Georgia has also expressed readiness to participate in the supply. Armenia, however, is not mentioned at all.
Axar.az reports that these remarks were made by Armenian economist Akop Kocharian.
He stated that due to the government's ineffective policies, despite Armenia's great potential for exporting energy resources, the country has been left out of regional programs:
"One of the reasons for this is that the young revolutionaries who came to power completely failed in the implementation of the new electricity transmission line between Armenia and Georgia."
He added that while Armenia was exporting electricity to Georgia until 2023, in 2024, it will only be importing electricity.
