Iran's chargé d'affaires in Azerbaijan, Seyed Jafar Agayi Maryan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
Axar.az reports that this information was shared by Azerbaijan's MFA.
During the meeting, objections were raised regarding the recent campaigns openly conducted in Iranian media close to government circles against Azerbaijan and its leadership.
It was emphasized that after a long hiatus, the 16th meeting of the "State Commission on Economic, Trade, and Humanitarian Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran" and other productive official meetings were held in Tehran. Despite this, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Iran was summoned to the Iranian MFA with baseless protests, and the campaign in Iranian media was intensified, causing confusion.
Additionally, during a meeting in Ardabil, instead of apologizing for offensive remarks made against Azerbaijan by Imam Seyed Hasan Amuli, a campaign supporting him was launched. It was highlighted that the involvement of religious figures, including Qazvin's Friday Imam, in anti-Azerbaijani activities is unacceptable.
It was stressed that such actions aim to harm bilateral relations and must be prevented.
The Iranian chargé d'affaires expressed regret over some unpleasant statements and actions and promised to relay the issue to the relevant authorities in his country.
