Nigeria deploys troops to Benin after failed coup attempt

After an attempted military coup in Benin, the Nigerian government has sent ground troops in addition to air support to the country.

Axar.az reports that this information was released by the Office of the President of Nigeria.

“The Benin government also requested the participation of Nigerian ground forces to support the protection of constitutional institutions and to contain armed groups. The Chief of Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, General Olufemi Oluyede, stated that all requests have been fulfilled and that Nigerian ground forces are already in Benin,” the statement said.

It is noted that yesterday a group of soldiers attempted a coup in Benin.
