U.S President Donald Trump has agreed to a two-week ceasefire, provided Iran agrees to a "COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING" of the Strait of Hormuz.
Axar.az informs that in a statement on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed talks with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged to "hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran".
He added that the pause is contingent on Iran agreeing to the “complete, immediate, and safe opening” of the Strait of Hormuz.
"This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East," Mr. Trump wrote.
He also noted that Washington had received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he called a workable basis for negotiations.
According to the president, most major points of contention between the United States and Iran have already been addressed, and the two-week period is intended to finalize a long-term peace agreement. He expressed confidence that a broader resolution for peace in the Middle East is close.
It shoul be noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday urged President Donald Trump to extend his deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz by two weeks.
“I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks. Pakistan, in all sincerity, requests the Iranian brothers to open Strait of Hormuz for a corresponding period of two weeks as a goodwill gesture,” he said on X.
