Talks between Iran and the United States have begun in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.
Axar.az reports that it remains unclear whether the negotiations are being conducted directly or through intermediaries.
If confirmed as direct talks, this would mark the highest-level face-to-face negotiations between Iran and the United States since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979.

The negotiations, which began on Saturday and continued overnight into Sunday, failed to produce a breakthrough, CNN reported.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Washington had presented its “final and best offer,” but Iranian negotiators rejected the proposed terms. He also stated that Iran did not commit to abandoning the development of a nuclear weapon.
“I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America. So we go back to the United States having not come to an agreement,” said Vance.
According to Vance, he remained in constant contact with President Donald Trump and other senior U.S. officials throughout the talks.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media blamed the collapse of the negotiations on what it described as excessive U.S. demands.
