Ukraine could lose two Donetsk cities by year-end

Ukraine could lose control of Chasiv Yar and Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region by the end of 2026.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, that military and political analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko said Chasiv Yar could fall in late September or early October after more than two years of Ukrainian resistance.

He described the city as a barrier that had slowed Russian advances toward Kostiantynivka from the east and exhausted Russian forces.

Kovalenko said Kostiantynivka could also be fully lost by the end of the year, noting that Russian forces had originally planned to capture the city in the first half of 2026.

He added that fighting could intensify in the Dobropillia and Druzhkivka directions in the coming months.
