Today, January 31, Azerbaijan marks the birthday of one of the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Mammad Amin Rasulzade.
Axar.az reports that, Mammad Amin Rasulzadeh (31 January 1884 – 6 March 1955) was an Azerbaijani statesman, scholar, public figure and the first and only president of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918–1920).
His expressions "Bir kərə yüksələn bayraq, bir daha enməz!" ("The flag once raised will never fall!") and “Şübhəsizdir ki bir gün, həqiqət parıldayacaq. Azadlıq əsasını, Birləşmiş Millətlər prinsipini və insan haqlarını tutan tərəf qalib gələcəkdir” (It’s certain that one day the truth will shine. People that live with foundation of freedom, United Nations principles and human rights, will win.) became the motto of the independence movement in Azerbaijan in the 20th century.
Rasulzade was born at Novxanı, near Baku and he died in 1955 and was buried in Cebeci Asri cemetery in Ankara.
