Russia–Azerbaijan relations are developing on a solid foundation, including a shared historical past and cultural heritage, said Russian President Vladimir Putin during the opening of the Azerbaijani State Musical Drama Theatre in Derbent.
Axar.az reports that, taking part in the opening via videoconference, the Russian president emphasized that the opening of the renovated Azerbaijani State Drama Theatre in Derbent would be a significant event in the cultural life of the Republic of Dagestan, Russia as a whole, and its neighboring countries:
“I would like to recall that the history of the theatre dates back to the 1880s. This theatre has always been served by people devoted to art. It is gratifying that now, after large-scale restoration work, the theatre has regained its modern appearance. I am confident that in the renovated theatre, our citizens will become acquainted with the rich Azerbaijani culture. We also welcome the guests from Baku who are attending the opening ceremony,” he said.
Putin also spoke about the development of Russia–Azerbaijan bilateral relations during his speech.
He stated that Russia–Azerbaijan relations are developing on a solid foundation based on a shared historical past, including cultural heritage.
Recalling the successful operation of the well-known Russian Drama Theatre in Baku, the Russian president thanked the President of Azerbaijan for supporting the theatre: “I would like to note that these two stages — the Russian Drama Theatre in Baku and the Azerbaijani Drama Theatre in Derbent — serve as a bridge between our cultures.”
Putin wished the staff of the Azerbaijani theatre in Derbent success in their creative activities.
