The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office is going to demand the maximum penalty under the "Terror attack" section of the Ukrainian Criminal Code for Verkhovna Rada member Nadezhda Savchenko, Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko said at Thursday’s briefing in Kiev.
Axar.az informs citing TASS.
"The penal measure which the prosecutor will submit to the court in a motion has not been determined at this stage yet. However, I am confident that it will be the maximum penalty for terror attack offences under the law," he said. Lutsenko did not specify the jail term, but the "Terror attack" section of the Ukrainian Criminal Code stipulates punishment up to life in prison.
The Prosecutor General’s Office earlier announced the end of the investigation into Savchenko’s terror attacks plotting case.
Savchenko plotted terror attacks in a parliamentary building and the government quarters, according to Ukrainian investigators. Verkhovna Rada stripped Savchenko of her parliamentary immunity and issued a detention and arrest warrant for her. The Kiev court arrested her for two months on March 23, after which she declared a hunger strike. The court extended her arrest for two months later and also denied her appeal to change the pre-trial restriction.
