Nuri Pahsa Army’s burials found

Turkey’s Ambassador to Georgia, Zeki Levent Gumrukchu says, he will visit a Georgian Marneuli district in Azerbaijani populated Borchaly region of the country.

The diplomat will visit a village of Marneuli district war a burial of about 30 Turkish soldiers who died in fights of 1919-121 was found.

According to a teacher of a local school, Sabir Quliyev, in 1918 the Head of the Islamic Army of the Caucasus, Nuri Pasha was surpassing Borchaly:

“Turkish soldiers were tired of fighting with Bolsheviks, they were running out of power because of hunger. In 1919, once they’ve surpassed Debed river, they stopped in a place called Qovu. They were around 100-120 people. Sometime later about 30 soldiers died of diseases. After they have been buried in our village, a commander gave an order to make a mound. This mound was called Oslmanly Tepe. Soldiers called a spring with the cleanest water that comes from local mountains, Pynar.”

According to the villagers, till 1988 there were high headstones on the hill, but someone slowly destroyed them. Nowadays a lot of human remains and soldiers’ clothes are found on this mound.
