A large fire broke out at the BioLab facility in Conyers, Georgia, on Sunday, September 29, 2024. The fire initially started early in the morning, and was thought to be under control but reignited later in the day, sending plumes of smoke into the sky. The incident occurred when water from a sprinkler system came into contact with a reactive chemical, causing a visible and potentially toxic cloud that could last for several days.

Axar.az reports that approximately 17,000 residents have been evacuated from the surrounding area, with additional shelter-in-place orders for the entire county. Roads, including I-20, have been closed, and emergency responders are working with environmental agencies to assess the situation. There are no reported injuries, and BioLab, which manufactures pool and spa products, has stated that they are cooperating with local authorities to contain the incident.

Local officials have urged residents to stay away from the area until the situation is fully contained, and some patients at a nearby hospital have been moved to other facilities as a precaution. Emergency agencies, including GEMA and FEMA, are actively involved in managing the response. Residents are expected to remain displaced until further environmental testing is completed.
