Russian President Vladimir Putin has made the right decision not to attend the COP29 international event to be held in Baku in November.
Axar.az reports that political analyst Elxan Shahinoglu made this remark.
He stated that it seems the Kremlin does not want to undermine the event's proceedings in Baku:
"Because if Putin were to participate in the event, many leaders, officials, and diplomats from countries planning to attend would likely refuse to participate. This would prevent the event from achieving its intended effect. The issue is that due to the aggressive war against Ukraine, Western leaders do not want to shake hands or sit at the same table with Putin. Since he understands all this, he will send his prime minister to the event in Baku."
The Russian president was in Baku in early August, discussing various topics with President Ilham Aliyev. A few days ago, the Azerbaijani president met with Putin for the second time in Moscow within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States. A third meeting is scheduled to take place this month during the BRICS summit in Kazan (October 22-24). Putin has likely concluded that this is sufficient for him.
It should be noted that, according to the BBC's sources, Prime Minister Mishustin, not Putin, is expected to attend the COP29 event in Baku.
