Today marks 33 years since the Dashalti operation carried out by the Azerbaijani Army, which ended in failure.

Axar.az reports that the operation aimed to liberate the village of Dashalti in Shusha from Armenian occupation and lasted from the evening of January 25 to the evening of January 26, 1992.

To execute the operation, 200 soldiers were selected from the Shikhov battalion. The operation, led by former Defense Minister Tacedin Mehdiyev, began on the night of January 25-26. The first objective of the plan was for the platoon to pass through the village of Nabilar, ascend to the Qizilqaya heights, and block the road from Dashalti to Sighnakh. The second objective was to block the road from Dashalti to Shushakand.

The operation's failure was attributed to severe weather conditions, poor organization of military communications, leaks of operational secrets, and the betrayal of local guides.

The platoon that entered Dashalti fell into an Armenian ambush. Other platoons also suffered losses and retreated. In the unsuccessful operation, the Azerbaijani Army lost nearly 100 soldiers, and Lieutenant Colonel Riad Ahmadov, who was the Deputy Chief of the Ministry of Defense’s Intelligence Unit, went missing. To this day, no information about his fate has been found. The Armenians also suffered significant losses, with 80 of their fighters killed during the operation.

It should be noted that as a result of successful counter-offensive operations launched by the Azerbaijani Army on September 27, 2020, the territories long occupied by Armenia, including the village of Dashalti, were liberated.

On November 9, 2020, the glorious Azerbaijani Army liberated the village of Dashalti, which had been under the control of Armenian armed forces since 1991. With this, the "Dashalti operation" was avenged 28 years later.

After liberation, mass graves were discovered in Azerbaijani territories that had been under occupation. One such grave was found on February 17, 2021, in the Dashalti village area, containing the remains of seven individuals.

The mass graves in Dashalti, where individuals were found with their hands and feet bound and executed, serve as direct evidence of war crimes committed by Armenians.
