The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has called on Iran to conduct its two-day naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz “professionally” near US forces.
Axar.az reports that this was stated in a CENTCOM announcement.
“US Central Command (CENTCOM) calls on the IRGC to carry out its announced naval exercises safely and professionally and to avoid unnecessary risks to freedom of navigation for international maritime traffic. The Strait of Hormuz is an international transit route and a vital trade corridor that supports the region’s economic prosperity. About 100 commercial vessels pass through this narrow strait every day worldwide. The US military recognizes Iran’s right to conduct professional operations in international airspace and waters,” the statement said.
The command warned that it would ensure the safety of US personnel, ships, and aircraft operating in the Middle East:
“We will not tolerate dangerous actions by the IRGC, including low-level or armed flights over US military vessels or installations when intent is unclear, or maneuvers toward US warships.
The US military is the most highly trained and possesses overwhelming destructive power. It will continue to operate with the highest standards of professionalism and in accordance with international norms. The IRGC must do the same.”
