Eight detained over alleged school attack plot in Izmir

Members of a group of eight suspects allegedly planning an attack on a high school in Torbali, in Turkiye’s İzmir province, have been detained by gendarmerie units.

Axar.az informs, citing Turkish media, that a court ordered house arrest for two of the suspects.

Authorities say a group of students at a local high school planned the attack through a WhatsApp group they created among themselves. The group, titled “12/A Avionics” and consisting of 20 members, reportedly discussed in detail carrying out an attack similar to recent school incidents in Shanliurfa and Kahramanmarash.

After threatening messages were identified, gendarmerie launched a large-scale investigation. Acting on the findings, law enforcement carried out simultaneous raids at multiple addresses, detaining T.Y. (17), A.K. (17), A.E.O. (17), E.K. (17), R.D. (18), F.G. (17), C.S. (17), and A.C.

Searches of the suspects’ homes and digital devices led to the seizure of evidence.

Three suspects were released after giving statements, while two others were freed under judicial supervision. The legal status of one more suspect has not been disclosed.
