Swiss banks block the accounts of Russians

Swiss banks have started blocking the accounts of clients with Russian citizenship. This applies to those who carry passports of other countries as well as Russia.

Axar.az reports that Roman Kudinov, a partner of the Swiss law firm "Leolex", said this in a statement to "Vedomosti".

Several clients of "UBS" and "Credit Suisse" banks with dual citizenship have encountered such a problem. All of them pay taxes in Switzerland, but in Russia, they do not receive any income and do not pay taxes," said Kudinov.

Ekaterina Popova, an employee of the ITSWM group of companies, also said that now Swiss banks are looking at any relations of their clients with Russia.

According to Popova, one of the banks also closed the account of a Swiss citizen who sent several 100 euros to his mother-in-law living in Russia years ago. However, that person did not have Russian citizenship.

According to information, one of the Swiss banks refused to open an account for several Israeli citizens holding Russian passports. Banks have asked clients for documentary confirmation of renunciation of Russian citizenship.
