Russian media and telecommunication watchdog on Monday announced it has opened administrative proceeding against Facebook and Twitter.

Axar.az reports citing AA that, in a statement on its official website, Roskomnadzor indicated "non-compliance with Russian national legislation" as a reason of initiating cases.

Business social network LinkedIn in 2016 and Telegram messenger in 2018 were blocked in Russia due to same reasons.

According to a law, adopted in 2015, all foreign companies must keep data of their Russian users on the computer servers in the country.

The process of blocking the websites passed several stages, starting from the opening of civil cases.
