In 1989, when the Armenian armed forces started an undeclared war against Azerbaijan, Riad Ahmadov devoted all his skills to the creation of the National Army and was appointed as the deputy head of the Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On January 26, 1992, Riad Ahmadov was injured in a battle with the intelligence group he led in the village of Dashalti and went missing.
Riad Ahmadov was born on December 20, 1956 in Baku.
In 1979, Riad Ahmadov graduated from the Faculty of Law of Azerbaijan State University with honours. In 1976-1979, he worked as a laboratory assistant at the Institute of Forensic Expertise under the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1979-1980, he worked as a consultant in the Department of Law Drafting and Systematization of Legislation of that ministry, and in 1980-1981, he worked as a senior consultant in the personnel department of the Ministry of Justice. Riad Ahmadov, who started working in security agencies in 1981, studied at the Higher School of State Security in Minsk in 1981-1982. In 1984, he was a student at the courses at the Institute named after Y.V. Andropov.
Riad Ahmadov is the son of Fikret Ahmadov, who served as the deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR. His sister is Mehriban Ahmadova, a composer and an honoured artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
