G20 summit opens in South Africa

The G20 summit has begun in the Republic of South Africa (CAR).

Axar.az informs that Bloomberg reported on this.

The summit was opened by the country's President Cyril Ramaphosa.

"CAR wants to ensure that the development priorities of the Global South and Africa are reflected in the G20 agenda," Ramaphosa said.

According to him, the countries participating in the summit agreed on the final declaration:

"The adoption of the declaration at the summit will send an important message to the world that multilateralism can and does meet expectations. It carries a message of peace and solidarity."

At the same time, he drew attention to problems such as difficulties in paying debts, reforms of international institutions, the transition to secure energy sources, and geopolitical tensions.

According to the information, negotiations have now begun behind closed doors at the G20.

It should be noted that the summit was attended by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, South Korean President Lee Hsien Loong, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other officials. However, US President Donald Trump has decided not to attend the summit.

F. Merz, E. Macron, and K. Starmer may discuss the situation around Ukraine within the framework of the summit.
