During a two-day visit to Denmark, 11 members of the US Congress held a press conference in Copenhagen and stated that this visit allowed them to better understand the relations between Denmark and Greenland, as well as the situation within Denmark.
Axar.az reports that the delegation emphasized the importance of demonstrating support for Greenland and its intention to convey the results achieved to the American public and the US administration.
Democratic Senator Chris Coons noted that the purpose of the visit was primarily to obtain information. The congressmen also emphasized the strategic importance of Denmark as an ally of the US and stated that the absence of representatives of the Republican Party in the delegation did not mean a lack of support for this country and Greenland from the Republicans.
“For 250 years, the United States has had a close ally in the person of Denmark,” he said.
K. Coons added that the current attitude of the US towards Denmark could harm America's international relations in the future.
It should be noted that today, mass demonstrations were held in Denmark and Greenland in support of the island's right to self-determination.
