Russia, Brazil agree to strengthen cooperation

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his visiting Brazilian counterpart Michel Temer have agreed to develop cooperation, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.

"Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the development of mutually beneficial Russian-Brazilian cooperation," Putin told a news conference, according to a Kremlin statement.

Putin said Brazil is one of Russia's "key" partners, adding: "Cooperation between our countries is based on longstanding traditions of friendship and mutual respect."

"We have just signed a joint statement with the president on Strategic Foreign Policy Dialogue. It envisages a higher level of coordination of efforts of our countries in combating new challenges and threats, terrorism, supporting peace, stability, non-proliferation. and arms control," he said.

Temer said both leaders renewed their commitments to maintain a strategic partnership between the two countries.

He added that several bilateral agreements were signed during his visit to Moscow.

"These agreements are aimed at expanding mutual trade, increasing investment, and deepening political dialogue," he said.
