The first round of the Armenian-Turkish talks, which ended with generally positive notes, also creates cautious optimism about the Armenian-Azerbaijani talks. Although there are many controversial issues and tensions between Baku and Yerevan.
Axar.az reports that the statement came from Russian political scientist Vitaly Arkov, head of the PolitRUS expert-analytical network.
"Russia needs peace in the South Caucasus. Therefore, progress in the process of delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, envisaged in the trilateral statements of November 10, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021, will allow progress in the normalization of Baku-Yerevan relations, the transition from confrontation to good neighbourliness. the expert noted.
According to him, the work of the bilateral commission on the delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border should begin as soon as possible:
"For this, official Moscow is fully ready to assist Baku and Yerevan to achieve its goal as soon as possible. In addition, it is possible to temporarily deploy Russian and Turkish peacekeeping forces in the buffer zone, respectively, to prevent unavoidable clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border for objective reasons. "Ideally, along the entire length of the border, but taking into account the possibilities - at least in areas where there is more tension," said Arkov.
