A head of a statue made in 700-850 BC was found in Mexico.

Axar.az reports that archaeologists say the statue belongs to Hunahpu, one of the most important religious figures of the Mayan civilization.

The excavation was carried out in Palenke, Chiapas province.

The head of the statue is 45 cm long and 22 cm wide.

The discovery of the 1,300-year-old statue is an important step in historical research.
