Today marks the 34th anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Axar.az reports that on October 18, 1991, the Supreme Soviet adopted the Constitutional Act "On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan".
The Constitutional Act refers to the Declaration of Independence dated May 28, 1918, and the Declaration of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the Restoration of the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan" dated August 30, 1991, and establishes that the Republic of Azerbaijan is the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
The Azerbaijani people established an independent republic at the beginning of the last century, and in 1991, the Republic of Azerbaijan restored its independence as the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
In May 1992, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan (music by Uzeyir Hajibeyov, lyrics by Ahmad Javad) was approved by the Milli Majlis; a little later, the tricolor flag and the state emblem depicting an eight-pointed star with a flame inside.
A new law, "On Independence Day," was adopted at the plenary session of the Azerbaijani Parliament on October 15, 2021. On the same day, the law "On Independence Day" was approved by President Ilham Aliyev.
With the approval of the law, October 18 - State Independence Day - was renamed and declared the Day of Restoration of Independence.
It should be noted that in Azerbaijan, the Restoration of Independence Day is a working day celebrated as a holiday every year.
