Iran rejects handshake ceremony with US delegation

An Iranian delegation has refused to participate in a joint photo session and handshake ceremony with the US delegation during talks in Geneva.

Axar.az informs, citing Tasnim News Agency, that a source close to the negotiating team said US officials and meeting organizers had planned a formal handshake and joint photo opportunity involving the Iranian and American delegations at the start of the multilateral meeting.

However, the head of the Iranian delegation rejected the arrangement and stated that the team would not take part in any joint photo with US representatives.

As a result, the photo session and live broadcast were held without Iranian participation. The Iranian delegation later entered the meeting venue after the ceremony had concluded.

The source also said the US delegation had requested a five-minute pause to allow journalists to leave the room before the start of discussions.

It should be noted that trilateral talks between Iran, the United States, and Qatar have begun in Switzerland, focusing on a ceasefire in Lebanon and the unfreezing of Iranian assets.
