Azerbaijan marks 5 years since liberation of Gubadly

Today marks 5 years since the liberation of the city of Gubadly from occupation.

Axar.az reports that on October 25, 2020, the victorious Azerbaijani Army liberated the city of Gubadly from the occupiers and proudly raised the tricolor flag in those territories after nearly 30 years.

On October 25, 2020, the President of Azerbaijan, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, announced the liberation of several villages of Zangilan, Jabrayil, Gubadly districts, and the city of Gubadly from occupation.

5,867 military personnel who demonstrated personal courage and bravery by participating in combat operations to liberate the Gubadly district from occupation were awarded the medal "For the Liberation of Gubadly".

It should be noted that the Gubadly district was organized in 1933 on the basis of the village of Gubadly. In 1963, it was abolished and its territory was merged with the Zangilan district. In 1964, it became an independent district again. Gubadly was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces on August 31, 1993. Its administrative division includes one city, 93 villages, and 31 administrative-territorial districts.

According to the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on July 31, 2023, October 25 is celebrated as Gubadly City Day.
