Nigerian teenage girls win $50,000 in Silicon Valley

Team Brain Squad, a group of five Nigerian girls was named the People’s Choice award recipients for their app, Hands Out, at this year’s global Technovation held in Silicon Valley, California. The girls’ aptly named Hands Out app is a fundraising tool to help finance education for indigent children.

Axar.az reports citing foreign media that 12 finalist teams traveled to Silicon Valley to pitch mobile app solutions tackling various pressing issues such as sustainability and domestic violence.

According to Techovation, more than $50,000 USD was awarded across all finalist teams to put towards bringing their product to market or to fund further education in STEM.
