Russian President Volodymyr Putin decided to launch a counter-offensive operation in the Kursk region after the election of Donald Trump as the US president.
Axar.az reports that "Telegraf" published information about this with reference to British intelligence and NATO sources.
"The Kremlin wants to retake the region before Trump's inauguration to gain a stronger position in negotiations to end the war with Ukraine. That is why the Russian Ministry of Defense sent a 50,000-strong strike force consisting of Russian and North Korean soldiers to the Kursk region," the information stated.
Yulian Röpke, analyst of "Bild" publication, reported that the Russian troops have been conducting a major counter-offensive operation in the Kursk region for three days to drive out the Ukrainian forces and have suffered heavy losses.
"DeepState" channel, which is close to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, wrote that despite Vladimir Putin's statement about the rapid cleansing of the region, Russian troops did not succeed in the first 10 days of November. Only 4 square kilometers of territory under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has passed into the gray zone. Currently, the Ukrainian army controls 611 square kilometers of Russian territory.
It should be noted that the inauguration of Donald Trump will be held on January 20, 2025.
