The United States hopes for a long-term partnership with Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mark Libby said this during his speech at the event dedicated to the 248th anniversary of US independence.

"After Azerbaijan regained its independence, the United States allocated more than one billion dollars to promote education and economic development, support internally displaced persons affected by the conflict, and clear the country of deadly landmines. But we also hope for a long-term partnership. Together, we strive for deeper cooperation that will ensure peace in the region," the ambassador said.

The diplomat recalled that Azerbaijan and Armenia started the process of border delimitation, held talks on the exchange of prisoners and openly declared that they are closer than ever to signing a peace agreement.

"The United States believes that these significant steps have opened a historic window of opportunity. The peace agreement to be concluded with Armenia will create unprecedented stability in the region and open the door to trade and practical cooperation that will benefit Azerbaijan and the region as a whole. The United States continues to urge both sides to take advantage of this opportunity, and we will do everything we can to help," he said.
